Sefton Park

The phone starts ringing.

Oh God no, not again. I really should have learnt from the last time I left my cordless phone in my room. The room was basked in a golden glow as I groped for the phone.

Robin:
Can you make to Sefton Park today?
Jingo: What? At this hour?
Robin: It's half ten, Jingo. It's hardly the early hours of the morning.
Jingo: (checks watch) Oh right... So what's this talk about going to the park? It's 6 weeks before the GCSEs! I'm not jeopardising my future just to have a frivolous game of football.
Robin: So? Stop being a loser.
Jingo: I have a study routine going on here, I can't abandon it! I have a future to work towards!
Robin: Seriously dude... You're beginning to sound like Torquer...
Jingo: What? No!
Robin: Even he's showing up...

As I was on the phone, I drew back the curtains to reveal a perfect spring morning - The radiant shimmering sun-drenched landscape of the outside world a perfect contrast to my depressingly dingy bedroom. I realised it would be criminal not to capitalise on such a fine day.

So I had no choice - I went to Sefton Park. We spent hours there kicking the ball around until the point where we couldn't move because of cramp.

I also learnt a valuable lesson - never wear glasses when playing football. Torquer somehow managed to smack the ball at my face from point-blank range, and my glasses managed to somehow dig into my eyes and fly off my face simultaneously. I stumbled around on the glass groping for them while he laughed in my face, feigning concern.

I was on my hattrick as well, the bastard.

So all thoughts of revision flew out of my mind. I may fail my GCSEs but atleast I got a decent game of football.

A little fresh air doesn't hurt.

I used to use any excuse to get away from studying. My grades reflected it too :)

Hey, it's good to get out, keeps the mind/body steady for more studying.

Back in the day, I was hit in the face by a soccer ball, direct hit. I was defence, and was very nearly on top of the foot and the ball. Yes, there was blood and gore, but no they did not score!

Bloody glad to hear it. You were getting a bit scary with the all-nighters. What good are GCSEs if your life and tolerance of sunlight wither and die while you're studying??

I got hit in the face with a football while in goal aged 7. I had a loose baby tooth in front that I'd been refusing to let my mum yank out for days (the sadist that she is) and it still managed not to fall out. Double-hard baby teeth or what?

lol aren't you like the last person on earth not to know that wearing glasses while playing any sport almost always ends in tragedy (or at least a sore face)?

:)

That's the spirit!!! Get out and enjoy the day!!

Hahahaha, the glasses thing!! I hate getting hit with soccer balls!! I am playing yet another season of soccer this year - our games haven't started yet, but trainings are fun! Hmmmmmmm nearly 30yrs.......scary stuff!!

hammer: It'll hurt if I don't get my predicted grades!

idbug: I used to play in defense, but I moved into midfield when they realised my talents were being wasted :D

violet: I'm making up for the all-nighters by sleeping on average 12 hours a day!

ktbangs: yeah it was a poor decision. I need to invest in some contact lenses.

kb: I don't mind getting hit, as long as nowhere near the eyes!

What team do you play for? Semi-pro?

I've been hit in the face by a football before. Not fun.

However, football itself is a wonderful alternative to homework any day. It would seem criminal to waste beautiful weather on studying indoors when you could be playing a match. There's no one at my university who has the same interest in playing as I do, especially since I'm a girl. I've been waiting for a pick-up match all year, to no avail.

I thought womens football (soccer) is big in the States? Or do you mean American Football?

I'm so glad you were able to get your share of sunlight and sport.
Have you ever been hit by a basket ball, square in the face, wearing your glasses? I sported a purple swollen nose for 2 weeks! Lucky it didn't break, since my nose is the most beautiful trait on my face. LOL

I rarely play basketball, but I can see how much that would hurt, especially at close range!

I need to get contact lenses, or those sexy Edgar Davids sport goggles!

If I don't take frequent breaks to go do things like playing games (anything to avoid studying), I go crazy.

Fresh air never hurt anybody, but as you found out, football does.

I like to think of my experiences as character-building, which keeps me sane!

Football only hurts when you're on the receiving end of a poor clearance...

Still, it's nice to get a whack in the mush.

Hey Jingo. Long time no ... speak? Is that the right word?

Off topic, but I've tagged you. I'm required to tell you, for some reason.

Haha!

I hate playing soccer.. I always manage to get hit at least 5 times. (and that's at least)

Man, I haven't commented in so long, I was just so obsessed with catching up on my school. (yeah right, I was actually reading this really good book during every spare moment of my day, even more)

Toodles! (haha... that just seems weird when I say it)

sam: I've already been tagged so yours will have to go on the waiting list!

other sam: getting hit is the best part of playing football! (actually, hitting others is...)

Yeah, I've been swamped with work as well. Quality of posts has dropped lately!

baie: crazy busy, haven't we all? Say any good things about me? ;)

Wow, I would love to have your job!

Wow, it's been awhile since I checked in here. In response to your earlier comment, I was talking about soccer. I prefer to call it football, though, since you are playing it with your feet, and besides, that game was invented long before American football anyway. I guess you could say women's football is 'big' here, although not nearly as big as other sports. I just don't happen to know anyone who thinks it might be fun to play a match every once in a while. I guess it's my own fault for not joining intramurals.
